Design for robotics

Hardware brands
work harder
A software brand mostly lives on a screen. Yours has to work on a robot in a warehouse, on a pitch deck, and in front of the people who work beside it every day.
01It lives on hardware
A mark has to survive engraving, a chassis plate and bad light, as well as a browser tab and a deck.
02Trust comes first
People share a floor with your robot before they trust it, so the brand has to feel safe at a glance.
03Clear, not clever
Investors, buyers and operators all need to understand what it does, in plain words, not jargon.
04It has a launch date
A raise or a product reveal sets the deadline. We plan backwards from it, so the site is ready that day.
Robotics, hardware
and connected products
Brand systems for robotics start-ups, the interfaces on wearables and field tools, and the design system behind one of the largest network companies.
Four ways
we help
Robotics companies usually come to us around a raise or a launch, asking for these four things.
IdentityBrand for robotics
Symbol, wordmark, colour and type, tested on the hardware and on screen, with clear guidelines.
- Typical£25K to £40K
- Time5 to 6 weeks
LaunchWebsite, built for the day
Built in production code, timed to your funding news or product reveal, and easy for you to update.

- Time8 to 10 weeks
ProductInterfaces and apps
The screens people use next to the machine: operator apps, dashboards and tools for the field.

ScaleDesign systems
Components and rules that keep a growing range consistent, as we did for Nokia for nine years.

brand book
Every brand we make can end in a working brand book on your own domain, not a PDF that dates. The Cobot book is built from the brand we designed for them, and it is the clearest picture of what you would actually receive at the end of a project.
Common questions
No. Industrial and mechanical design is a different discipline, and there are studios that do it brilliantly. We design everything around the machine: the brand, the website, the interfaces people use to run it, and the design system that keeps it all consistent. We are used to working alongside an industrial design team, and we make sure the mark works on the hardware they build.
Yes. We designed the brand system and launch website for Cobot, the collaborative robotics company founded by Brad Porter, formerly VP of Robotics at Amazon, and built its site for the Proxie robot reveal, and Cobot went on to raise a $100M Series B. We also created the identity for Gritt, a physical AI company automating construction work. Before that we spent nine years with Nokia Design, and led the interface design of Ford’s autonomous vehicle simulator, which won IDSA Gold.
Yes, and most robotics projects have one. The Cobot website went live with its Series A announcement. Tell us the date at the start and we will plan the work backwards from it. A brand takes five to six weeks and a brand with a website eight to ten, with two weeks’ notice to start.
Yes. Cobot is in California, and we worked with Nokia’s San Francisco design team for nine years from London. We keep a few hours of overlap each day for calls, and the work moves on while you sleep.
The Ford autonomous vehicle work is password protected at the client’s request. Ask us and we will share access, and walk you through it on a call if that helps.
