A global design system for critical infrastructure
Nokia Pure is the design system behind Nokia’s digital products across critical infrastructure and enterprise networks. Working inside Nokia Design, More Air built it from the ground up: principles, components, icons and illustration, with coded components in Storybook. It won iF and Red Dot awards in 2021.
Reaching out to a global community
Nokia Pure was created from the ground up, in line with Nokia's core design principles: Radically simple, Human, and Dynamic. It balances form and function, applied without distraction and with a sense of quality. Simple to use, develop, and experience, it caters to a global community, enabling rapid personalisation, multi-language automation, diversity, and inclusion.
Crafting Nokia's unique, timeless style
Icon and illustration libraries were crafted from scratch specifically for Nokia, adhering to the brand principles. The style is intentionally clean, minimal, yet human and approachable. This bespoke system creates a unique, ownable style for Nokia. Nokia Pure can adapt to future trends while always maintaining the core brand principles that make products distinctly Nokia.
Update once, change everywhere
Components were designed with flexibility in mind and are easy to update across various projects when linked to the design system. When a component is updated, it automatically changes for all teams, ensuring everyone stays up to date with the latest changes and new components as needed. This centralised source of truth significantly reduces design debt and engineering friction, enabling rapid deployment across global product teams.
Designing to be future-proof and flexible
Nokia Pure is a constantly evolving system, flexible enough to meet the needs of various teams and stay future-proof. It avoids stagnation and legacy issues, allowing the design language to adapt as needed. When new features and best practices emerge, Nokia can react and adapt, ensuring the best design system for both now and the future. Today, a system with clear components and rules is also what AI coding tools build from, so new screens come out on-brand.
One system across every platform
Nokia Pure was created for multiple touch-points and platforms, not just for a single product team. This single approach gives every Nokia product and tool the same feel. Assets are interchangeable between mobile, web, and print, working across different devices and platforms. With one source for every team, it is ready for new devices, tools and processes as they arrive.
